there are a lot of festivals still happening.

Festival Mexicano, the Tango Festival, VEMF, Skafest, Jazzfest, Shakespeare Festival, the Fringe, Rifflandia. Hell, this weekend alone there is VEMF, the Symphony Splash and the Capital Festival at St. Ann's. A couple weeks ago, I saw three free concerts in a four-block radius on a Saturday afternoon: a free SkaFest performance, some of Festival Mexicano and the Courtyard Session in Market Square.

Yes, we've seen a few big festivals go, but there's been a lot of great festivals still going strong or popping up to fill the void. FolkFest has been gone for four years, it's time to stop whining about being a fest-less city and start celebrating what we do have. They might not be on the scale we saw with the ICA Folkfest, but there's still lots of wonderful things happening. I know of at least two music festivals in Victoria slated to start in 2011, and there have been two new close-to-town festivals (Rock the Woods and Tall Trees) unveiled this summer.

I miss FolkFest as much as the next person, but to say that folks don't support festivals is a bit weak. Many groups are reporting record attendances at events, free or no.
